Mifflin County, PA
The Derry Township Planning Commission meets on the FIRST Thursday of each month at 4:00 PM at the Township Office in Yeagertown.
What are the duties of the planning commission?
The Commission is comprised of five members appointed by the Township Supervisors. The commission reviews and makes recommendations on proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance, official map, subdivision and land development and planned residential development plans.
In March 2000, Derry Township adopted an On-Lot Sewage System Management Ordinance. The ordinance requires that all on-lot sewage disposal systems be pumped and inspected. The Township is divided into four areas and will be inspected at regular four year intervals.
Property owners in each area will be notified by mail when it is time for inspection of their system. They will have until the end of that year to have their inspection completed. They will be required to contact a pumper/hauler licensed with Derry Township to pump their system. The pumper/hauler will then notify Page, SEO, LLC (Sewage Enforcement Officer) to be present at the time of pumping and inspect the system.
It is the property owner’s responsibility to pay the pumper/hauler directly for his services. There is also a $50.00 inspection fee, due at time of inspection that will be collected by the SEO. Check or cash for this fee is to be made payable to “Derry Township”.
During the inspection, you will be asked to provide some history on the system to the SEO. He will provide you with a copy of the inspection report when the inspection is completed. Please keep this copy in a safe place for future system inspections.
A required pumping cycle may be skipped if a property owner submits a written application to the Township requesting that our SEO performs a sludge test. If the test falls within the Township requirements, the system will be exempted from pumping for one consecutive cycle only. A $60.00 inspection fee will be due at the time of the sludge test. If the system fails to fall within Township requirements for exemption, the property owner will be required to have their system pumped (and pay pumper/hauler for their services) and pay a fee of $60.00 to the SEO for a complete inspection.
